hawthorn berry

2008-07-31 21:49:24

Hi everyone,

I am so glad that people are considering taking Hawthorn Berry supplements for their PVC's! I had 10,000 at least a day for 1 1/2 years without help from beta-blockers/calcium channel blockers/magnesium etc. I took the Hawthorn 1500mg daily and within 6 weeks they were decreased and within 2 1/2 -3 months they were completely gone. I did not have any side effects nor are there any really noted and I also have somewhat low blood pressure too at times. The only thing that I have found is that it works similar to Digitalis so they should not be taken together. I stopped it for a couple of months as a trial, but then they started up again just as before after about 3 months of being off of it, but I restarted QUICKLY and within 10 days I was back to being PVC free. I thank God every day for not having to deal with that anymore. I hope that it helps everyone as much as it helped me. I talked with my EP about it last year and again this year and he stated that it's been
around alot longer that all the drugs on the market today and he did not think it would be a problem with me taking it long term. Good luck and God bless.

Sincerely.

Erin

Re: [PeoplewithPVCs] Anyone get "THAT" feeling?

2008-07-31 18:14:11

Kelly
I know exactly what you mean. I often say to my partner - "oh oh it's going
to be one of those nights" and that is usually before I have had any pvc's.
It's almost like my heart feels "full" or something like that. It feels
like any little thing will tip it over the edge into pvc's and for me it's
usually when I lie down. Also like you I am usually aware when it is calm
and that I probably won't have any more for a while. Weird!! Eating
sometimes brings mine on and also I suffered really badly whilst pregnant -
in fact that is when mine started and I often wondered if it was all the
pressure on my diaphragm.
So - you're not the only one - and - you're not nuts!!

I would be a night owl too if it were not for the medicine I take. I know
when it is all over. I have that calm old me self back feeling. But I
never know when they will hit and I never know when that feeling of feeling
yucky will go away. I just got up (in the late afternoon - from a 2 hour
nap) so if I make no sense then just bare with me. I am still sleeping. It
is that medicine. They are capsules so I can not break them and they knock
me for a doozy. I feel so out!!!!

Re: [PeoplewithPVCs] Anyone get "THAT" feeling?

2008-07-30 13:15:03

Hi Kelly!
I have experienced what you describe. Since it is the electrical charge of
the heart that is getting over-stimulated in premature heartbeats, I figure
that weird sensation has to do with the body's electrical system. Just a
thought.

Re: [PeoplewithPVCs] Anyone get "THAT" feeling?

2008-07-30 06:46:01

Hi Kelly.
I believe there is definitely a relation between GI problems and PVCs. I say
this because I developed a heartburn/reflux problem *the same day* my PV/ACs
started. Doc says its a coincidence, I say no way. We'll after 6 months of
reflux chest pain, I asked the doctor for something. He gave me Zantac, that
didn't do much, then some prescription strength Tagamet, which seems to help
a lot. Guess what, I would swear my PVCs are less now too!
Maybe you should consider more, smaller meals or an anti-acid and see if
that helps?
Just a thought.

Re: [PeoplewithPVCs] The Hawthorn Files.....

2008-07-30 04:15:08

Hi James,
I had PVCs explained to me the same way, as an electrical problem that is
not associated with structure/blood flow, etc. Though I think this is a good
working model, I also think its a simplification. You can't really seperate
the electrical function of the heart from the physical because, at the very
least, the heart muscle itself if the transmission medium for the electrical
signals (or so it would seem to me). I just think there is overlap in the
aspects of heart function, that is why something like Hawthorn Berry can
have an affect on both.

Sleepytime Tea

The Hawthorn Files.....

2008-07-29 17:23:35

Hi Everyone,
First off thanks to Rob for the info on the Hawthorn Berry,
what a furore it's caused on the mailing list ! I'm starting on it tomorrow
for a two month trial period.
One thing I'm curious about and I wonder if anyone has any
ideas. From what I've read, Hawthorn is a 'heart tonic' that is recommended
for high BP and mild arrythmias. It also slightly dilates the heart and
allows more blood flow and therefore better circulation in general. Having
had my cardio explain PVC's to me as though I were a med student, I know
that they are not a result of any structural or vascular difference in our
hearts, but a recurrent 'short circuit' in the electrical system of the
heart. So it would seem that Hawthorn directly affects the electrical
system of the heart. Curioser and curiouser. It would seem though that if
hawthorn dilates the heart muscle, pvc's might be a result of an 'over
tense' heart muscle (if that makes any sense at all) which would explain the
correlation with stress and fatigue, as well as alcohol. Any thoughts?
Take Care,
james

Anyone get "THAT" feeling?

2008-07-29 14:35:22

Ok, its late and I am in the mood to ramble about this little question I have
had on my mind...so here goes! ;)
When I KNOW my PV/ACs are comming on, I start to get "that feeling" in my
heart. I dont know if any of you know what feeling I am talking about. Its
like, it feels like my heart is "uneasy" or "stressed out". It does not have
to mean that my heart is beating fast or anything. And most of the time when
I get that feeling I am not at all worried or stressed or anything. It just
comes on, and I knwo the lil suckers arent far behind. Now, in contrast, I
know when they are done for the night because I get this feeling of calmness
in my chest. Like I can breathe easier or somthing. You all must be thinking
I am nuts! But this is how it feels for me and I wanted to know if any of you
have it too?
Also, I have noticed that I get my PVCs worse AFTER I eat. Anyone else? Like
today for instance...I had them all day today after I took my BP med. Then
about 4pm they stopped! Then about 7:30...after I had eated my dinner, they
came on full force until after I .....well....lets just say "releaved my
bowels"...then they were gone and have not came back. These things must have
somthing to do with the diaphragm pushing up on the heart or somthing.
Tomorrow I have a noon appt. with my Naturopathic doctor and I am going to be
bringing up the Hawthorn berry thing with him again. I want to get back onto
a good heart helping supplement regimin. I will let you all know what he says
about the Hawthorn. He is a WONDERFUL Naturopathic doctor....I am happy that
he can see me on such short notice. :)
Well, that was my little ramble for the night. Hope you all are sleeping
well. I am a night owl, so I still have a couple more good hours in me before
I turn in :)
Take care,
Kelly

Finally got to sleep that night-awful night!! But thanx to you guys,

Today was completely better. Had a curriculum night at my son's school (1st
grade) tonight. Met and talked with his teacher. I can't believe my baby's

I can't imagine your commute!! I can't stand going to downtown Chicago to
take care of something, much less work there and commute everyday!! YUK!!
(no wonder you have pvc's! hahaha) Is your commute that long due to heavy
traffic or just loooong distance (or both)??
So here's to no more vicious circles!!
Goodnight!
Barb
ps.. I better get to sleep while the goings still good!

Hawthorne Berry

2008-07-28 21:35:03

I just want to throw in my 2 cents regarding Hawthorne berry. I take
1000 mg a day in capsules with no side effect other than it takes me
from 3-4 PVC's per minute to 3-4 per DAY. I also take calcium/magnesium
and make sure I am well hydrated.
I've tried a lot of other things but worked it down to these two,
principally the hawthorne. I notice no side effects. It is frequently
prescribed in Europe for heart conditions.
Best of luck,

Thanks for the replies... It is just amazing that I can be without

for about the past 2 weeks. I get to feeling a bit too good and then they
start again. I worry a lot about my health (lost both parents by the time I

a "lower" number of palps comparatively speaking, but even 1 unnerves me.

I did feel a rush of anxiety and panic and my heart raced and I felt shaky

Hi Susan!!
Well, I'm here AGAIN.... tried to go to sleep, but they are keeping me
'insane' tonight. I tried an herbal tea my brother-in-law suggested. It
has calming effects (drank 1/4 glass, but no calming yet -haha) It is
melissa herbs, in case anyone knows of this, let me know if it works
eventually!! I think I'm soon heading for the lorezepam... I hate to use it
too often, but when you have 3 kids up at or before 6am, I NEED MY SLEEP!!!
It's midnight here now (Chicago) I was watching an OPRAH re-run and talking
to my sister on the phone, but she has to get up to work in the morning, so
I let her go and am back online now!! My heartrate is super slow right
now. The pvc's started kicking in around 4pm today and haven't let up. I
was ok this morning. Monday they were super bad all day. We had a major
weather change from 90F down to 66F the next day. I wonder if pressure
change does anything??? I hate when there is no rhyme or reason as to when
or why they come and go!!
I had no other side effects from the Hawthorn, other than an aftertaste
from my stomach. But maybe taking them with more food would help that. I
should've been more consistent in taking it and of course trying it for a
longer period of time. I looked on the net more tonight on it, and it does
state in a few places about long term effects and giving it quite awhile to
start working!!
http://www.doctorphyto.com/Library/Botanicals/GHI_herbs/Hawthorn_Reviews.htm
Here's one site I happened to be in earlier. There are quite a few.
Well, thanks for letting me ramble. I think my stomach is upset now,
either from hyperventilating and/or anxiety. I am going to try to relax
myself to sleep... and if that fails, I will resort to drugs!!
(prescribed -that is!!) :o())
Have fun working!! Don't work tooo hard!

I'm going to try the Hawthorn too but am very wary of any herbs etc. due to
side effects. I did ask Rob and he said he didn't have any - did you have
any side effects apart from an aftertaste when you were taking it?
Hope you're feeling better now.

Speaking of husbands.........
Mine thinks that I "make them up" in my head. That I somehow imagine them. I
get so mad when he says this to me. He thinks that just because the
cardiologists only saw 3 (twice on a holter and once in the hospital on the
heart montior) that it means that those are the ONLY 3 I have ever had or
somthing. He really p*sses me off...seriously! I a KNOW that you all know
how these little buggers like to *hide* from the doctors. Shoot, everytime I
go in for a checkup or a doc appt.and they listen to my heart......the doc
says "Oh, nice....sounds good too me". But then 2 seconds later...(as soon
as the stethescope is off my chest.....) "FLIP!"
So.......like I said....glad to be back to the group..Where people believe

I am so happy for you that you have gotten your PVCs to a point that you can
manage. I hope that the trend continues for you! And as for having 10,000
per day. all I can say is wow.....you must be a very stonge person, because I
may have just about gone insane from that many! Thats what I meant in my
intro email about feeling like a baby for complaining about the few that I
have. because there is always somone else out there who has em' worse than
me!
Anyway, glad you feel good!! I may just give that hawthorn berry a try
again. I took it before for my high BP, but I never put 2-n-2 together that
it could also be helping with the PVCs . :) I will let you all know how
that turns out!

have a PVC at a certain time in the heatbeat, (during a QV wave or somthing,
dont quote me, im not a doctor!! lol) it can cause sudden cardiac death or
send you into massive ventricular fibrilation. That is what I heard before. I
read some stuff about it too. Most people with PVCs dont like to talk about
it. .....I know I dont even like to think about. Anyway, if someone else
reads this post and knows more about the R on T thing.....mabey you could
ease our fears or shed some more light on it for us. :)

Hi,
I did have it prescribed to me once, but I didn't take it after reading
about the side effects (mainly lowering of heart rate). I already have a low
rate and was not thrilled about it being lowered more. It was prescribed to
me by a substitute doctor (mine was on vacation). My regular physician and I
decided it really wasn't needed.
Do you have high blood pressure, or is it prescribed just for the PVCs?
Just curious how much it did drop your heart rate..

My name is Charlene, I live in Oklahoma and am 41 years old. I have
suffered from palpations for the past 20 years. Mine are not very
regular (maybe 2-10 a day with a few days here and there of more
often, and some days none at all). I have been to lots of physicians
over the years, had all the tests and have always been told I am
fine. My husband is a dentist who sometimes thinks he is a physician
-- he thinks I imagine them. I have noticed that mine are very
cyclic with my menstral cycle (more when ovulating and during
menses). Any one noticed this to be true for them? I have been told
that this is "common" is some women. Maybe "common", but that gives
me no peace when it is happening to me. I am glad to have found this
message board and plan to spend some time in the archives. Thanks n
to everyone who has posted here. It is good to know I am not the
only one who suffers with this malady.

My Introduction!

2008-07-25 05:50:19

Hello all,
My name is Kelly and I have been on this list before, but have not been on
the internet for a few months due to puter probs. So I have re-subscribed and
hope to get to knwo all of you again!
I have had PVCs and PACs for many years now. They seem to be getting more
frequent the older (and fatter!) I get. I am 25 now. I have been steadily
gaining wieght for the last year due to a endocrine disorder that I have call
polycystic ovarian syndrome. It has been very hard for me to lose the weight,
so this of course has made my PVC's INCREASE in frequency and severity. (I
get some real WHOPPERS!)
I have had the "standard" heart work up that I am sure all fo you have had.
Only to find out that there is nothing "wrong" with me. HA! Yeah, ok......so
they say. I know, they are suppose be benign, but they sure are scary huh?
Especially that R on T thing. When I first heard of that I didnt sleep to
well for a few nights......so I wont go into that... :)
I guess I dont have the PVCs AS bad as some other folks I have talked to.
Which is a good thing. But I guess it makes me feel like a wus that I
complain about having the ones I do get. If I am having a "bad" PVC day, I
will get them in runs of 3 or 4 at a time. And I will usually get about 30-40
per hour (not all in runs, just a total of that many). Mine usually come in
couplets, which make me really weak in the knees after a few hours of that.
My instinct is always to go to ER, but since my husband works there, he
usually tries to talk me out of it, since he knows that there is always a
long wait.......and lets face it, I know the routine. But thats kind of my
safty net, as I am sure it is for most of you all. Its like, I know I am
going to be OK, but for some odd reason, on a bad day, it makes me feel
better to be hooked up to a 12 lead and have a doctor tell me im OK!!
Well, I wont ramble on anymore tongiht. Hope to get accuainted with all of
you! I am thankful I am back to this list......look forward to the support. I
need another outlet to vent my troubles and fears. I drive my husband
crazy!!!!
Blessings,
Kelly ;0)

PVC CURE ? Try Hawthorn Berry

2008-07-24 20:10:33

Hello Fellow PVCers,
I've been taking 1350 mg of Hawthorn Berry for about a
month (three 450 mg pills a day). After no indication
this was doing anything, last week my PVCs virtually
stopped. To me it seemed like a miracle. When this
first happened, I was so relaxed I almost fell asleep
in my chair.
I had thousands of PVCs a day, 5 to 20 per minute, for
over a year. I had tried lots of remedies that failed
(magnesium, CoQ10, bananas, more water, oranges,
citrus, vinegar tea, vitamins, garlic pills, ...). I
probably would not have tried Hawthorn (or tried it
long enough) if not for Erin's 8/3 post "Re: Digest
Number 583". She said it took her 6 weeks to have
fewer PVCs, and after 3 months she hardly had any at
all. Thanks, Erin. In my case I may have a few I
don't feel, but to drop from nearly 10,000 per day to
a few is remarkable.
Erin had frequent PVCs like me, so our symptoms were
similar. I know many have PVCs that are different
than ours, however, I believe it would be worth it for
all to try Hawthorn for a few months. At the same
time I was taking Hawthorn, I increased my aerobic
exercise from every other day to daily, and decreased
my consumption of milk and dairy by a factor of 10. I
think, however, it was the Hawthorn that lessened my
PVCs. I hope this works for you (and continues to
work for me). Good luck.

Re: [PeoplewithPVCs /Susan F

Hi Susan, just read your post of the effects of medicines. I too came off my
meds when I saw/read what it actually could cause and thought the risks were
too great. I also have gone through with my cardio the reasons for my
anti-drug theory and all he could come up with was try it and see no
guarantees ! not good enough I say to help anyone at all in deciding the do i
take it or dont i
So with any meds that are suggested I now look them up first to see what are
the worst side effects I could expect so far beta blockers have produced a
more irregular beat than before so they stopped 2 months ago, and well, he
asked me to try flecainide the read up on this one speaks for itself ! its a
no no definitely. So I am taking trusty magnesium (600mg daily) I have felt a
little better in the past week so I am going to keep trying alternate meds
(non drug).

Re: [PeoplewithPVCs] Klonopin

2008-07-23 08:17:50

Yes, the Klonopin has caused me trouble, Andrea. My doctor is trying to get
me off it. I have only been on it since April and only take 1mg a day.
They will not let me take anymore then that a day because my heart rate
would drop to low. Klonopin is in the same class as Xanax. I tried Zoloft
to help me off the Klonopin a few months back but I would get black out
spells through out the day and quit it. I get twitches with the Klonopin
and I get real sleepy too. But I am having a real hard time getting off it.

Klonopin

2008-07-23 00:43:26

I am taking Zoloft and Klonopin. My Zoloft was just upped to 100 mg's a day
and I find that it has been actually having some appetite suppresant
qualities at this dosage. I take the Klonopin three times a day, 2 mgs. My
doctor prescribed it because she felt it was not habit forming like Xanax or
Ativan etc. The Klonopin does lessen my PVC's and I have actually taken the
Klonopin and Atenonol in a space of about a hour apart. My doctor warned me
that the two together would pretty much zonk me out but they don't. Have
some of you been having trouble with Klonopin?

Re: Magnesium

Jackie,
I have also heard about people with arrythmias being injected with
magnesium. Perhaps its more effective being injected straight into
the bloodstream. I take 450mgs of chelated magnesium which is Holland
and Barratts own brand. Not sure if its doing any good but it can't
do any harm at that level so I shall continue.

my family and use it as a preventative. So far the joints seem fine
but i'm not so sure about the heart. It hasn't lessened the offbeats
but apparently, according to literature I read in the Britsh Medical
Journal, it can prevent serious arrythmias (the life threatening
ones) from occuring. Also eating plenty of oily fish like mackerel,
sardines, salmon etc. has the same effect.
Eskimos have almost non-existant heart disease and they thrive on the
stuff!!
Along with the red wine, a drop of the old cod liver oil is my daily
treat!!
From a very well oiled, little old wine drinker me....I bid you
goodnight!

Hi to you all,
I've recently arrived home from a wonderful holiday in California. We
went for three weeks, drove 3000 miles, and saw all the "sights" from
LA to San Francisco taking in Las Vegas, The Grand Canyon and
Yosemite National Park. I have been palpitating all the way,
especially when my husband allowed me to spend 10 dollars in the
Bellagio hotel casino in Las Vegas. After we lost within 1 minute he
dragged me out (he knows my addictive nature too well)!!
My pvcs were at their height when Brad Pitt walked past me and
boarded our plane home!! My fear of flying disappeared instantly when
I knew such a divine creature was sharing my air space. However I was
a little disappointed with his height - possibly 5ft 10ins. I'm 5ft
9ins, but whats an inch between friends!!
Anyway it's nice to be back with my palpitating pals and to see all
your lovely photos. Suzy you are exactly as I imagined...very sweet.
The rest of you are pretty cool too.
If any of you could let me know how to download a picture I shall be
happy to display my ugly mug!! Its suntanned at the moment so doesn't
look too bad!!
Good health and happiness....Gill

just over it ? only every now and then.
I could not for the first time last night get comfy there was this stupid
cramp no matter which way I turned. Apart from the PVCs, I am OK. But then

Hi Guys, I thought you may like to know, Ive been to the chemist today to
collect my mums antibiotics for a cold she has and was having a quite word
with the guy who dispenses the drugs. I was on the subject that I take mag
for PVCs and that my doctor probably thought it would be of no use. The guy
said I think these docs can be proved so wrong because magnesium is given by
injection to all heart attack victims !
And the docs are trying to say mag is of no use to us ! if thats so why give
it to heart attack people ! Contradiction or what. LOL

MEN & PAXIL

2008-07-20 23:49:47

Hi Gang,
For all the men in the group who may be thinking of taking Paxil, there is a
side effect that may be quite fine for you men, but I can guarantee that your
wives, girlfrieds will not like it. It is called delayed ejaculation. From
experience it might seem quite wonderful for the first couple of love making
sessions, but after a while, it brings out complications that are not so
pleasant. It's totally up to you of course, but I just thought I would warn ya.

So, we will see. I hope you find an answer to your depression and know that
we are here for you. You will come out with flying colors if you keep your

us think through that good cry. The right medicine, though. And much

Thanx Suzy!!

Just what I needed....a blue elephant!! (hahaha). The breathing thing sometimes you just have to be reminded of. I ended up taking 1/2 (25mg) of lopressor and 1mg lorezepam in the afternoon. It still lasted a couple of hours even after that, but now (after10pm) I am LOTS better!!! (Although I now feel a migraine coming on--can't win!) I hope my baby girl doesn't cry tomorrow morning. I think the stress of breaking her into day care is getting to me....I cried with her, after she left...(my husband ended up driving them today) The whole day was shot!!! (I guess I'm a woosy mom!). Then I go to meet my 1st grader off the bus, he gets upset because he wants to come home on his own!!!! Why are they growing up so fast!!!!

Thanks for your one-track mind today...made me laugh!! Stuff my girlfriend and I sometimes make each other laugh about!!

Well hope your "reunion" went as you hoped!! :o)))

rhythm in my chest. I'm palping like crazy, but the strange thing is
when I feel for my pulse (yes-- it's still there, slow as it is!!) I
feel like a thump after the beat, like an after beat and it doesn't
feel normal or pvc-like either. It is driving me mad!!!
Hi Barb!
My PVCs often don't feel exactly like PVCs either, and in fact,
that is when they really freak me out. I don't know what's going on
when that happens, but I try to reassure myself by remembering that
they've felt "different" at other times too, and I've always been
OK. I guess the only way to know for sure what it's doing would be
to catch that rhythm on a Holter Monitor. Try not to worry,
especially if you've been checked out a zillion times (like most of
us have!).

dental work

2008-07-17 08:25:23

Hi guys,
I have a dentist appt. at 11:15 am to have a filling replaced. Last year when I
had some work done I told them no epinephrine...well that had to give me like 10
shots and I still wasn't completely numb and it was an absolute horror. My
dentist said I should really go with the novocaine with epinephrine, but I 'm
scared I'll start palping or something worse. What do you guys think?
Jen

RE: [PeoplewithPVCs] dental work

2008-07-17 04:50:04

Hi Jennifer....I had this problem when I had my first root canal a few months ago. I told the root canal guy (can't remember what you call one of those guys) that I wanted the novacaine without the epinephrine 'cuz I have problems with an irregular heart beat. He was SO reassuring. He told me that he "could" use the other stuff, but he really thought that going with the novacaine was the better idea. Like you said, you had to have lots of shots and it didn't work very well. He told me that the speed up in heart rate only lasts about 2 minutes and I would be fine. He was so reassuring that I let him do it. I go through this everytime I have a novacaine shot and now it doesn't bother me. It doesn't cause me to have palps, just a faster rate for a few minutes during which I pray and deep breathe. I personally would recommend you go with the novacaine. Just getting all those extra shots is harder on my nerves/palps than just the basic old novacaine.

You'll do fine, Jen....besides, if you start palping, IT DOESN'T MATTER BECAUSE THEY'RE BENIGN BENIGN BENIGN BENIGN!!!!

Re: [PeoplewithPVCs] school started...so did palps...

2008-07-16 18:03:51

Barb,
Only you would know for sure if what you are doing is best for you and your
family, but if you feel you need more time for yourself (which I totally
relate to!) then I think you are doing the right thing. We have to fill our
own cups, so to speak, otherwise we have nothing to give to others! You ever
get that feeling - you are drained and empty and have nothing left to give?
Give to yourself and then you will feel better and have more for your family.
And possibly you will appreciate the time you do have with them even more!
(I'm working on taking my own advise!!) Hang in there - I'm sure things will
calm down when the new routine gets more established!

school started...so did palps...

2008-07-16 12:33:48

WELL, Hello to all!!!!

I must say this has been a tearful morning. My oldest baby started 1st grade today! It was more emotional today with him first, then with my 2 younger ones starting day care yesterday!! We stood before the school, and I started feeling choked up, trying not to let him see me. All the mom's dropped theirs off and split quickly, then I saw why -- the longer I stood with him, the worse it got. When he started grabbing my arm and cuddling, I said I have to go now to drop his brother and sister off. The teachers were all out greeting them, so I left him in line!!! I felt terrible, but I guess it was better for him too, instead of getting all teary in front of his new classmates (although there were 2 already crying somewhat!) WHAT A MORNING!! He came back on the school bus, said school was ok, but he wasn't feeling well, complained of stomach ache and headache!! He got some motrin and fell asleep about 4pm. Probably a case of jitters!!

My baby daughter cried on the way to day care already, making me crazy and thinking "I can't do this to them" I was ready to go back home with them....But she didn't even cry later in the day today like she did yesterday....My 4yr old loves his class--he says- thank goodness!! .......So maybe by the end of the week we will all settle in with the new schedule of things........BUT my palps were going nuts all night and this morning. Probably more nerves hoping they are all alright away from Mommy!!!

Am I nuts being this worried!!??? I was doing this day care thing more for me and now I'm not sure! I think it's guilt creeping in!!

Take Care

Barb (hoping for a palp and guilt-free day tomorrow!!)

Susan,
Sorry to hear that you're going through a tough time. I've felt
nauseated when anxious too. For me, that's actually one of the "pre-
symptoms" before I go into a full-fledged panic attack. I usually
step outside and breathe some fresh air for a little while and it
subsides. There is certainly a strong link between "GI" symptoms and
stress!!! So I would guess that's what's happening with you. I
certainly hope things improve soon for you. I'll keep you in my
prayers:)

Re: [PeoplewithPVCs] Breathing

2008-07-13 21:00:24

Hi Val,
Yep I used to get that all the time. What happens is that when you are
stressed or anxious then the muscles in your chest tighten up and it feels
like you can't breathe. But don't worry, you're body won't let you not
breathe :)
If it gets really bad, try not to breathe, hold your breath for as long as
you can, you'll find that your body will kick in and make you take a deep
breath. Just think calming thoughts, know that its no danger to you,
practice different breathing methods and as soon as your brain realises that
this scare tactic wont work on you the feeling will diminish and finally go
away.

Hi All!
Do any of you (especially those of you who have suffered with
panic disroder) ever become very conscious of your breathng, and feel
like you have to consciously think about breathing in order to get a
good, full breath? I was checked out by a pulmonary doctor when I
first experienced this sensation, and he said I was "fit as a
fiddle." I usually experience this when I'm anxious, and it occurs
with and without palps (more often without). SO...........#1 Let me
know if any of you have felt this and #2 What did you do to solve
the problem? I'd really appreciate your help. I don't need this
added stress right now. I really don't. Enough is enough. Thanks:))

Andrea,
I've also been concerned about mercury in the big fish (tuna, salmon,
etc. However, I remember reading somewhere that the omega-3 fatty
acids in tuna actually counteract the negative effect of mercury,
which is why you don't hear a lot about it. I remember after reading
this article I felt free to eat as much tuna as I wanted. But this
is secondhand information from my memory, if I can find that article,
I'll post it..............

Tuna Concern Andrea

2008-07-11 00:37:46

Unless I hear something HORRIBLE about tuna, I'm gonna go ahead with lots of
tuna sandwiches. I'd much rather have a tiny bit of mercury poisoning then
have these palpitations. I'm not pregnant or a child...besides, we probably
get lots of mercury just from drinking water and breathing the polluted air.
Kind of a pessimistic view, I guess, but you can only worry about so many
things.<smile

Warning Issued About
Mercury In Tuna
5-11-99
WASHINGTON - A coalition of environmental and health care groups in the
United States has issued a warning about mercury levels in tuna fish.
The group, called Health Care Without Harm, says pre-school children should
eat no more than one tuna fish sandwich a week. It also says pregnant women
should avoid it altogether to protect against dangerous levels of mercury.
The coalition analyzed 27 samples of major brands of tuna, fish sticks and
shrimp from grocery stores. Tuna contained the most mercury with an average
of .167 parts per million.
Mercury can cause permanent brain and nervous system damage to the
developing bodies of pre-schoolers and unborn babies.
Coal-powered utility plants are the biggest producers of mercury emissions
that contaminate streams, lakes and rivers.

Val and Mickey and everybody else who's having a hard time with family
illnesses lately....
Hang in there. Sometimes life just sucks, period. (All the old people on
my family have already passed away, so I've been where you are...it's just
so hard to see your family members suffering or being scared.) But in the
midst of all the bad stuff, try to remember some beautiful things...the
birth of a newborn baby...a beautiful sunset...holding hands with somebody
you love. And remember Who holds the future.
Andrea...thank you so much for sticking around. I'm glad you found a way to
re-arrange your day. If it helps, we'll all try to say hello to the new
people who sign on, right guys?? (Well, actually we should be doing this
anyway...some of you guys are so good at this.)
Hugs,
Suzy

Re: Scanners, pix

2008-07-08 09:45:52

Hi Val & all,
Scanners are great. (Being in the graphics & electronic prepress or web
design field, indispensable!) However, here are a couple of ways around
buying one if you don't want to or cannot:
1. KINKO's! For a small fee Kinko's can scan pictures and put them on disk
for you. A better & cheaper way is:
2. Wolf Camera/Proex & others. The usual places I get film developed are now
offering a disk or cd with your pictures on it, as well as your prints. This
is the easiest way to get your pix on a computer!
3. Kodak Picture Maker... Target and many other photo developers have
scanners on site that are simple to operate and cheap too. They have
instructions and I believe even some features to add borders, captions, etc.
AND remove red-eye.
Just a couple thoughts. Would love to "see" more of you guys!! (And hey, for
those that think "Oh, that's way too complicated. I won't know what to
do!"-- You said the same thing about being online not ALL that long ago,
didn't you??) <wink

fish oil/omega 3 oils

2008-07-07 18:35:55

Hi Gang,
I stumbled upon a product a couple of years ago and in no way am I trying
to endorse it, just thought I would share some information about it. I take
it and my daughter takes it. It has Omega 3 oils, essential fatty acids,
evening primrose oil (which helps us with PMS) and my husband wants to kiss
the person who produced this product...LOL, and other totally natural
supplements. It is called EFALEX. I don't know if any of you have heard of
it. A lot of people give it to their children for ADHD and ADD. The doctor
who came up with it has a theory that kids who have ADD etc., are lacking
essential fatty acids due to the average American diet. But I have found
that the Omega 3 oils have helped my PVC's. I buy it at my local drug store,
but if you want to check it out the web site is www.EFAMOL.com It's a
little confusing because there are two products, EFAMOL and EFALEX. I still
haven't figured out the difference between the two. It was designed for
optimum eye and brain function.

I have worked things out so that I can dedicate more of my time to the list.
Thank you all who responded for my plea for help. I was just feeling a little
guilty that I could not put as much time into the list as I wanted to. I
like to send welcome messages to all newcomers and I like to read all the
posts etc. I have rearranged my day in order to do that. It is an
unmoderated list so it is fairly easy anyway. I will remain list owner and
am glad that so many people have found this list. You are all a wonderful
group of people. I just found out about the chat. I didn't even know onelist
or egroups had a chat type of capability, that is cool. When the next chat is
coming up, please let me know. Thanks.

Re: New file uploaded to PeoplewithPVCs

2008-07-07 07:22:39

Hi again Suzy!
Thanks for sharing the picture. You sure are a good looking,
happy looking couple:))) I'm very lacking in computer knowledge, so
let me ask you..... Did you have to have a scanner to send that
picture to the PVC group? My daugher (who at 13, is much more
computer savvy than I am) REALLY wants me to purchase one because
she's creating her own websites, and says she needs that in order to
put pictures on the site. What kinds of things can you do with
scanners, and how complicated are they to operate? Thanks:)
Luv,
Val

Re: I don't get it...

Hi Lisa!
I'm glad you kept trying. The picture was great. It's awesome
to be able to see the people we're "chatting" with:)) I'm assuming
you can't do this unless you have a scanner. I just posted a message
to Suzy asking her about that, so hopefully I'll find out soon so I
can send some pics. I'd love for you all to see my baby boy - a 135
pound spoiled rotten "Rottie." Guess I could send a picture of me
too:)) By the way - the butterfly release at the Memorial Service
sounds beautiful. What a lovely thing for you to do. Take care...

Val

Lisa and Suzy,
Thanks for the great pictures. You would never guess the two of you suffer
from PVC's... Neat idea. As soon as I learn how to upload a picture I will
send one too.
Suzy, is it easy to do??? I read part of the directions but didn't have time
to scan one in tonight.

Re: [PeoplewithPVCs] Let's see some pictures!!

2008-07-05 16:01:39

You asked for it! I never have done this B4 but I posted a pic of me in my
butterfly tent. I don't know if I told you guys about this? If I didn't you
are the only ones who know me who DON'T know... I tag Monarch butterflies to
help the U of Kansas track migration (had two butterflies recovered in
Mexico last year--- traveled 1779 miles from my backyard to the
overwintering grounds in El Rosario!) Anyway this year I have been breeding
Monarchs in a tent in my backyard for a release that will (finally!) be next
Wednesday. A boy in my son's scout troop was killed in an explosion at his
home in May. One of our Eagle Scouts made a butterfly garden at the
elementary school for his project, and we are having a memorial/dedication
(in my OLD hometown) next week at Back to School night. I am planning to
bring 100-150 tagged butterflies for a release at the garden. Wish me luck!
This picture just shows ME in the tent. I have tons more of butterflies,
caterpillars, etc. There are about 175 Monarchs in the tent today!
SuzyQ, it was a treat to SEE you and Dennis! Thanks for the idea, I didn't
know we could even do this!

My Aunt

2008-07-05 00:07:30

Well, Mickey you are in the right frame of mind about your Aunt. I asked
for healing when I prayed and tried to take it from your hands. I guess
that is how he healed. I am sorry for her death. We get so attached to the
human bodies around us that we forget they belong to God and what we have
here on earth is nothing when it comes to Heaven.
I am sorry,
Christine

2008-07-03 20:50:14

Sue,
Thanks for the information on SSRI withdrawal. I was wondering what the
withdrawal symptoms would be like. I stopped taking Paxil a couple days and
got the electric shock sensations. I'm going to try to slowly wean myself
off just to see what will happen. Is there any method to do this to minimize
the effects? e.g., 1/2 pill for 2 weeks followed by 1/4 pill for 2 weeks?
I'm already taking just a half pill.
Thanks,
Ed

over stressed like that. Trying to improve my breathing now and
looking forward to having a quiet weekend!!
Hi Gord!
I'm here, but it's 11:26 (in the good old USA) and I don't know
if you're still on or not. Sorry to hear your heart was doing the
flip flops. I can definitely relate. Sounds like the job change
will be a good thing, but you know they say even good changes create
stress. I'm sure once you're settled into the new routine, the palps
will ease up. Mine have been especially bad lately, and I'm counting
on the return to my school routine to settle them back down (I teach
and have been off all summer). The breathing is a big issue for me
too. The last several days I know I've been holding my breath,
hyperventilating, or something because I'm very aware of each and
every breath most of the time. I don't know about you, but I sure
wish I was LESS tuned into my body's every sensation:)) Hope your
weekend is quiet and restful! Take care.....

Val

Re Paxil and SSRI's

2008-07-02 18:00:22

Hi all
Just wanted to add my bit on Paxil and ssri anti-depressants. I was on
zoloft for 3 years (almost idential to paxil). I had A LOT of trouble in
getting off it and whilst I was on it I became fairly emotionally numbed and
had no sexual response (very common side-effects).
I am certainly by no means telling anyone not to take these drugs but I
think sometimes it's helpful to hear the story from another side.
Part of me felt very much better on zoloft. In the first year of therapy
there were virtually no pvc's, no panic attacks, no anxiety etc.
After the first year I became aware that whilst I wasn't overly
depressed/anxious I wasn';t overly happy either - just flatness.
I stopped my zoloft now 3 months ago and it was really hell. Withdrawal
consisted of electric shock feelings all over, extreme agitation, feeling
seasick/dizzy/vertigo/world spinning, nausea and unable to eat, not sleeping
and basically feeling like I'd rather be dead! I've done quite a bit of
research on SSRI withdrawal on the net and what I have read has made me wish
I never took these drugs in the first place.
I am willing to put up with the pvc's rather than go back on them.
The other thing that used to scare me is what if one day I suddenly couldn't
get zoloft! You have to do a gradual tapering withdrawal from them (and
even that is ghastly) - I started panicking about the thought of having to
go into sudden withdrawal.
Anyway - now 3 months into withdrawal I feel more like the old me.
Certainly I have some panic episodes and I stil have the pvc's - but they
came back anyway after the first year on zoloft. However - my sexual
response is back and I now am having ups and downs more like what I would
consider to be normal.
I just beg anyone who is considering taking these drugs to look at them very
carefully. Gather as much info from the web as you can and then make an
informed decision.
If your symptoms are totally intolerable then do it because quality of life
is important - but just remember the withdrawal part is totally horrid!
I hope you all don't think I'm preaching - remember I myself took these
drugs for 3 years and I certainly don't want to imply that you shouldn't
take them - just some words from "the other side"
Love to all

Hi John, on the subject of fish oils and stress. I had a good old set too
with my hubby a couple of months ago, i mean a right i threw the plants and
god knows what else at him and guess what ?
I had no palps for a whole week ! it was as though i had cleared all my body
of all the stress i had been holding for ages ! however they came back AGAIN !
but i must admit it was brilliant to be PVC free for a whole week !
who knows i might have another plant throwing event LOL
