STARS School in Pleasant Hill, California will be speaking in
November at the College of St. Rose on two specific topics related to
teaching children with language delays. Dr. Partington is a

with Autism or Other Developmental Disabilities and The Assessment of
Basic Language and Learning Skills (ABLLS), as well as provides
extensive training opportunities, consultation services, workshops,

findings, within the field of Applied Behavioral Analysis, utilizing
the conceptual framework of verbal behavior as developed by BF

Teaching children with Autism, through the Analysis of Verbal
Behavior has great benefits to help learners improve their ability to
communicate at home, school and community. This workshop will
present a conceptual analysis of Verbal Behavior to assist teachers,
parents and professionals in how to use the motivational variable to
effectively teach children. This specialized approach to instruction
can assist in teaching social, play and language skills, useful in
everyday environments and can be very beneficial to school districts,
therapists and parents.
A major emphasis will be placed on identifying methods to develop and
maintain motivational variables (motivative operations) to teach
language in naturally occurring activities. Through his research of
the motivational variable, at his clinic and school in California,
and his work with families and children, Dr. Partington will present
information on the value and application of this to teaching.
Participants will learn to use pairing, development of learner
cooperation, instructional control, manding and using mixed verbal
behavior teaching sessions to prevent escape and avoidance behavior.
In addition, participants will identify the critical teaching skills
in order to provide appropriate educational services which may be
effective for children with autism.
Registration of a minimum of 50 participants is expected. A maximum
